Nieuwegein, Princess Beatrixsluis. The Lek Canal is the most important waterway between the ports of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Due to the increasing inland shipping traffic it was necessary to increase the capacity of the Beatrix lock by constructing a third gully and widening the Lek Canal.
