Veerse Gat Dam was constructed in 1961 to close the Veerse Gat. The dam is build using drain caissons, the hollow caissons were sunk into position by filling them with water, the slides were raised, after which the water of the North Sea could flow through unhindered. When all the caissons were in place, the slides were let down simultaneously. Finally, the caissons were filled with stone..© 15 aug 2016 Marco van Middelkoop/Aerophoto-Schiphol
