The Markiezaat a shortened name for the Drowned land of the Markiezaat of Bergen op Zoom. The Markiezaat is part of the Oosterschelde and is located southwest of Bergen op Zoom. Since the closing from the sea by the Markiezaatskade in 1984 it has developed into a freshwater marsh region.
