Oxygen steelworks 2, Tata Steel, Velsen North.
Tata Steel, Oxygen steelworks, the hot metal leaving the blast furnace contains 4% to 5% carbon. So much carbon makes it very hard but also brittle. The removal of the carbon is done in an oxy-steel plant. This installation blows oxygen through the liquid iron with great force. Because oxygen and carbon bind easily, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are formed. With these gases most of the carbon disappears from the brittle hot © 2 jan 2018 Marco van Middelkoop/Aerophoto-Schiphol
